The L.A. Forum invites you to Under the Influence, a series of conversations that bring together
international and local architects and designers into conversation where they investigate and expand
on the influence of Los Angeles’ modernist era. Set in curated iconic and modernist spaces in L.A.,
the series aims to engage speakers in provocative dialogue with each other and with the audience.
The first in this series features David Godshall, principal of TERREMOTO, and Wonne Ickx, cofounder of PRODUCTORA.
They will discuss their work, highlighting the influence of L.A.’s modernism on their journey.
They will also address the effect of this period on the City since. This program brings the public into intimate
spaces to ignite a fluid dialogue and further explore the topics initiated by these speakers.
Seats are limited to 25 guests.

Lorena Garcia will be lecturing 1st year Applied Design Studio: TOPOGRAPHIC FORM at
the Landscape Architecture Department at College of Environmental Design,
in Cal Poly Pomona University, California.
LA1121L is the second course within the lower division design sequence. This studio focuses
on the generation of topographic form using a variety of different modeling techniques and
materials. Using an iterative process, we observe and record patterns in the landscape, then
investigate how to translate these patterns into physical form. Investigations emphasize
the generation of 2D and 3D form through spatial operations that are controlled by a
combination of digital and analog tools. Abstract topographic constructs serve as an
introduction to landform, how it guides water flow and how it can be manipulated to create
strong visual, performative, and experiential effects.

not only the planting of certain forms of flora or the shaping of geography toward scenic ends
but also the acts of digging, naming, articulating, and otherwise clarifying what already exists.”

From December 16th- 19th, Lorena García will be imparting “Geometrias Diferentes”
a workshop at Dmad in Madrid.
Bajo la observación de los paisajes naturales y creando un puente entre los procesos ecológicos
y el placer estético, este curso pretende buscar herramientas de observación y crítica, y con
ellas abordar desde diferentes perspectivas la función de proyectar en el paisaje.
Durante el curso se introducirán diferentes metodologías de diseño, realizando ejercicios
cortos y rápidos de expresión de ideas y se mostrará también diferentes métodos de representación.

Lorena Garcia will be lecturing 3rd year Applied Design Studio at the Landscape Architecture
Program at College of Environmental Design, in Cal Poly Pomona University, California.
The studio topic will investigate the role of public parks as core components of social
infrastructure for communities. Amongst the many individual uses, the master plan is to
re-envision the reservoir as a moredeeply considered community asset. This studio will look at
the position of the reservoir complex as one in a series of contextual assets that could provide
a widely expanded set of public resources building a more resilient social infrastructure. The
studio will also include the development of a piece of site furnishing that reflects the project
conditions.
